The short answer on dental bridges.
A dental bridge is a fixed set of crowned teeth that spans a gap, with a replacement tooth suspended between them. It usually takes two visits over two to three weeks and is used when one or two teeth are missing and the neighbouring teeth are strong enough to carry the load.
The trade-off is real and we'll say it plainly: a bridge requires shaping the two healthy teeth either side. An implant doesn't. If the neighbours already need crowns, a bridge makes good sense. If they're pristine, an implant is usually the better long-term call.
Bridges do have advantages: they're finished in weeks rather than months, they don't require surgery, and they're often covered better by insurance.
Who needs dental bridges?
If any of these sound familiar, it's worth a conversation. Renew Dental Loft sees patients from Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Roselle and Streamwood seven days a week.
- You're missing one or two teeth in a row
- The teeth either side of the gap already have large fillings or crowns
- You've been told you don't have enough bone for an implant
- You want the gap closed in weeks rather than months
- Food keeps packing into the space where a tooth used to be
What to expect at your appointment.
Times are estimates. We see one patient at a time, so nothing here happens while your dentist is working in another room.
- 1
Assessment
Twenty minutes. X-rays and a look at whether the anchor teeth can carry it.
- 2
Prepare the anchors
About ninety minutes. Both supporting teeth are shaped and scanned.
- 3
Temporary bridge
Same visit. You leave with the gap filled.
- 4
Fit the permanent bridge
Second visit, about forty-five minutes. Fit, bite and shade checked, then cemented.
What dental bridges changes.
Fixed in place
Nothing comes out at night and nothing shifts when you eat.
Faster than an implant
Weeks rather than the months an implant needs to integrate.
No surgery
A good option if you'd rather avoid a surgical procedure.
Better insurance coverage
Many plans that exclude implants still contribute to bridges.
How much does dental bridges cost in Schaumburg?
We don't publish a price, because quoting a number before we've looked at your mouth would be a guess. Here's what actually moves the figure, and how to get a real one.
- A bridge is priced by the number of units, so a three-unit bridge costs roughly three crowns
- Material choice affects the price
- Most PPO plans cover around 50% after your deductible, subject to your annual maximum
- Compare the lifetime cost against an implant with us before deciding, and we'll lay both out in writing
We file claims with most major PPO plans. If you're uninsured, our membership plan is $499 or $699 a year and includes exams, X-rays and cleanings plus a discount on treatment. See what the membership plan covers.

Dental Bridges questions, answered.
An implant is usually better long term because it leaves the neighbouring teeth untouched and preserves the bone in the gap. A bridge is faster, avoids surgery, and often has better insurance coverage. If the adjacent teeth already need crowns, a bridge stops being a compromise.
Commonly ten to fifteen years. The bridge itself rarely breaks. What ends its life is usually decay or a fracture in one of the supporting teeth underneath, which is why cleaning under and around it every day matters more than with a normal tooth.
You can't pass normal floss through it, so you use a floss threader, superfloss, or a water flosser to clean beneath the false tooth daily. We'll show you the technique at fit and check it at every visit. Skipping this is the main reason bridges fail early.
Yes, in most cases. The porcelain is shaded to your other teeth and the false tooth is shaped to sit against the gum convincingly. Where the gum has shrunk significantly, we sometimes add pink porcelain or discuss grafting so there isn't a dark triangle underneath.
The preparation appointment is done fully numb, so you feel pressure rather than pain. The gum can be sore for a day or two, and the anchor teeth may be sensitive to cold for a few weeks while the temporary is on. Nitrous oxide is available if you'd like it.
