A denture is a removable replacement for all the teeth in an upper or lower jaw, made from acrylic and set into a gum-colored base. It usually takes four to six visits over several weeks, and it's used when all the teeth in an arch are missing or need removing.
The visits matter. Dentures that get made in one appointment are the ones that end up in a drawer. We take records in stages, try the teeth in wax so you can see them before they're finalised, and then adjust after fitting.
Expect adjustment appointments in the first month. Sore spots are normal and fixable, and they are not a sign the denture is wrong.

Dentures questions, answered.
Most people need two to four weeks before eating feels normal and a few days for speech to settle. Start with soft food cut small, chew on both sides at once, and read out loud to retrain your speech. Sore spots in the first weeks are normal and we adjust them.
A well-fitted upper denture usually holds well by suction. Lower dentures are harder because the tongue and floor of the mouth are moving constantly, and some slipping is common. If slipping bothers you, two implants under a lower denture change the experience completely.
Typically five to ten years. The denture itself wears, but the bigger issue is that your jaw ridge shrinks over time, so a denture that fit perfectly at year one gets loose by year five. A reline can often refresh the fit for less than a new denture.
No, take them out overnight. Your gums need time without pressure, and leaving dentures in around the clock raises the risk of fungal infection and faster ridge shrinkage. Clean them and store them in water or a denture solution, never in hot water.
Yes, that's an immediate denture, made in advance from impressions taken beforehand. You never go without teeth. The trade-off is that gums shrink as they heal, so it needs relining or replacing after several months. We'll explain the cost of both stages upfront.
