The short answer on cleanings & hygiene.
A dental cleaning is the removal of plaque and hardened tartar from your teeth and just under the gum line. It usually takes about an hour and is used when you're due for routine care, typically every six months, or more often if your gums bleed or you build tartar quickly.
Your hygienist works through your mouth in sections, scaling the deposits off each tooth, then polishing and flossing. At Renew Dental Loft you keep the same hygienist for the whole appointment because we see one patient at a time.
If anything is tender, say so. We can numb an area, switch to a gentler tip, or split the cleaning across two visits. Nobody gets talked out of being uncomfortable here.
Who needs cleanings & hygiene?
If any of these sound familiar, it's worth a conversation. Renew Dental Loft sees patients from Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Roselle and Streamwood seven days a week.
- It's been six months or longer since your last cleaning
- Your gums bleed when you brush or floss
- You can feel rough buildup behind your lower front teeth
- Your breath doesn't improve no matter how much you brush
- You're new to the area and need a dental home in Schaumburg
What to expect at your appointment.
Times are estimates. We see one patient at a time, so nothing here happens while your dentist is working in another room.

What cleanings & hygiene changes.
Catches problems early
A small cavity found now is a filling, not a crown.
Healthier gums
Removing tartar is the only way to stop the inflammation that leads to bone loss.
Fresher breath
Most persistent bad breath traces back to bacteria under the gum line.
Fits a work week
Weekend and 7:00 am weekday slots mean no lost work hours.
How much does cleanings & hygiene cost in Schaumburg?
We don't publish a price, because quoting a number before we've looked at your mouth would be a guess. Here's what actually moves the figure, and how to get a real one.
- A routine adult cleaning costs less than almost anything else we do
- Deeper cleanings for gum disease cost more because they take longer and are quoted per quadrant
- Most PPO plans cover two cleanings a year at or near 100%, and we file the claim for you
- Our membership plan includes two or three cleanings a year depending on the tier
We file claims with most major PPO plans. If you're uninsured, our membership plan is $499 or $699 a year and includes exams, X-rays and cleanings plus a discount on treatment. See what the membership plan covers.

Cleanings & Hygiene questions, answered.
Plan on about an hour from check-in to checkout. If it's been several years since your last visit, or you have heavy buildup, we may need longer or a second appointment. We'll tell you at the start of the visit rather than surprising you at the end.
Every six months suits most people. If you have gum disease, smoke, are pregnant, or have diabetes, three or four month intervals control inflammation much better. We base the recommendation on your gum measurements, not on a blanket rule.
It removes surface stain from coffee, tea and tobacco, so teeth often look brighter afterwards. That's not the same as whitening, which changes the underlying shade. If you want a real shade change, ask us about in-office or take-home whitening at the same visit.
A little bleeding during and shortly after a cleaning is common when gums are inflamed, and it settles within a day or two as they heal. Keep brushing and flossing the area gently. Bleeding that continues past a few days is worth a phone call.
