The short answer on oral cancer screenings.
An oral cancer screening is a visual and hands-on check of your lips, tongue, cheeks, palate, throat and neck for sores, patches or lumps. It takes about two minutes and is included in every comprehensive exam, because early changes rarely hurt and are easy to miss.
We look under and along the sides of the tongue, at the floor of the mouth, and at the tissue behind your back teeth. Then we feel the lymph nodes in your neck and under your jaw.
Most of what we find is harmless: a cheek bite, an irritation from a sharp filling, a canker sore. When something looks worth watching, we photograph it and recheck in two weeks, or refer you promptly.

How much does oral cancer screenings cost in Schaumburg?
We don't publish a price, because quoting a number before we've looked at your mouth would be a guess. Here's what actually moves the figure, and how to get a real one.
- The screening is included in the price of a comprehensive exam, not billed separately
- That exam is part of the $229 new patient visit
- Membership plan members have all clinical exams included
- If a biopsy or specialist referral is needed, we'll explain those costs before anything is scheduled
We file claims with most major PPO plans. If you're uninsured, our membership plan is $499 or $699 a year and includes exams, X-rays and cleanings plus a discount on treatment. See what the membership plan covers.

Oral Cancer Screenings questions, answered.
At every comprehensive dental exam, so typically twice a year. If you smoke, use tobacco, or drink heavily, that regular rhythm matters more, not less. Anything you notice yourself between visits is worth a call rather than waiting for the next checkup.
Sores that haven't healed in two weeks, white or red patches, unexplained lumps or thickening, rough spots, and changes in how your bite or tongue feels. In the neck we're feeling for enlarged lymph nodes that don't move normally.
No. It's looking and gentle feeling, nothing more. If we find a tender area we'll ask about it, but the screening itself involves no instruments in the tissue and no discomfort.
Most findings are harmless irritation, and we recheck in two weeks to confirm it's healing. If a lesion persists or looks concerning, we photograph it, document the size, and refer you to an oral surgeon or specialist for a biopsy. We'll help you get that appointment.
Tobacco users, heavy drinkers, people with HPV exposure, and anyone over forty carries higher risk, and men more than women. That said, a meaningful share of cases occur in people with none of those factors, which is why the check is routine for everyone.
