Fluoride. To be or not to be, that is the question.

There is a lot of confusion whether fluoride should be used in your drinking water and/or toothpaste or not. At Renew Dental Loft, we completely understand because if you have ever walked down a toothpaste isle in the store, it is very overwhelming! It is also a very common question for our patients, “should we be using fluoridated toothpaste,” but also a concern for some of our patients. Dr. Hoepfner, Dr. Elapunkal, and our staff are here to help! A few fun facts:
- The Chicagoland area applies .75 parts per million of fluoride into our drinking water (according to Village of Schaumburg 2017 water report).
- This is why- “fluoride is added to the water supply to help promote strong teeth. The Illinois Department of Public Health recommends an optimal fluoride level of 0.7 mg/L with a range of 0.6 mg/L to 0.8 mg/L.”
- Most toothpastes have a small amount of fluoride in them, unless they clearly state on the box that it is FLUORIDE FREE.
- Here at Renew Dental Loft, we feel passionately about fluoride as a cavity protection that we are starting to offer fluoride treatments not only for our child patients, but for our ADULTS patients TOO!
Here is an interesting article about the fluoride debate in regards to using fluoride in your toothpaste or not. Hope you enjoy! Article
